Extensively purified EF-1H (EF-1αββ′γ) from wheat embryos had a protein kinase activity and phosphorylated EF-1β which is one of the two EF-Ts-like factors (EF-1β and EF-1β′). In this reaction ATP and GTP were equally effective as phosphate donors, and threonine residue was phosphorylated. At 10-7M,3′,5′ cyclic GMP stimulated both the phosphorylation and phe-tRNA binding reactions, whereas 3′,5′ cyclic AMP inhibited both reactions. These findings indicate that phosphorylation of EF-1H may play an important role in the translational control of protein biosynthesis at the elongation step.

Polarized UV resonance Raman and absorption spectra have been measured of monolayers of an azobenzene-containing, single-chain ammonium amphiphile adsorbed at the aqueous solution-carbon tetrachloride interface. The number, orientation, and interaction of adsorbed molecules have been examined as a function of concentration of the aqueous solution.

Journal Article, English Abstract
(lang: ger)
Between February 1971 and February
children with myelomeningocele were treated at the Model Center of Heidelberg University Orthopedic Clinic.
In 82 of these children, a total of 224 osseous lesions were seen.
Metaphyseal and diaphyseal fractures were far more common than epiphyseal lesions, among which
dominated.
Diagnostically important symptoms included swelling, local hyperthermia, and high temperature.
Owing to the paralysis, pain is of no value in diagnosing fractures.
Protruding periosteal detachments are a common feature of lesions, and if this special form of healing of such fractures is unknown they may cause problems in differential diagnosis.
Fractures in children with
should be treated conservatively, except for fractures of the femoral neck and epiphyseal lesions, which are treated with transcutaneous Kirschner wiring.
Immobilization in plaster, postoperatively and during treatment of the injury, is the most common cause of osseous lesions in
Immobilization in plaster should therefore be minimized.
