CHAPTERIII-InstitutionalSupportSystem3.1ManagementInformationSystemBackgroundHasanuddinUniversity’sopportunitiesasthebiggestuniversityintheeasternpartofIndonesiashouldbemaintained,forinstance,bycarryingoutitseducationalprocesswell.Oneoutofmanyfactorsthatshouldbemanagedcarefullyisitsmanagementinformationsystembecauseasweknowinformationisrequiredforanymanagementactivities.ThisISSsubprojecttoestablishManagementInformationSystemforHasanuddinUniversityisproposedinordertosolveproblemsfacedbytheuniversityindatabasesmaagementandcampusconnectivity.ThisISSsubprojectistherightwaytobuildasupportingsystemfordeliveringaccurate,timely,relevant,andcompleteinformationfordecision-makingandstrategicplanningforUNHAS.OneoutofmanyUNHAS’weaknessesistheinformationsuppliedtothemanagementsometimesincomplete,inconsistent,irrelevant,andnotontime.Tochangethisweaknessintostrength,awell-organizedinformationsystemmanagementshouldbeestablished.MeanwhilerapidtechnologychangehaslefttheUniversitybehindwithitsoldcomputerssystem.UPTKomputerastheexecutingunitofUniversity’sinformationmanagementshouldbeexpandedandre-engineeredtobecomeamoderninformationcenter(notonlyacomputercenter).SincethisISSprojectisimplemented,thetopmanagementofHasanuddinUniversityagreedtoexpandUPTKomputerintoaUniversityInformationCenter(PusatInformasiUniversitas/PIU)andbyRectorDecreeinAugust2001,andlaterbyAssignmentLetterlastDecember2002,thisPIUhasbeenestablishedwiththreedivisions:DivisionofInformationManagement,DivisionofInformationTechnology,andDivisionofInformationServices.ManagementInformationSystemsubprojectproposedthreeinterconnectedactivities:Establishawellorganizedinformationsystemmanagement.EstablishthecampusIntranetandonlineinformationaccess.Capacitybuildingforinformationsystemmanagement.Thefirstyearactivityisto“Establishawellorganizedinformationsystemmanagement”insomewaysupportstheactivityofInformationManagementDivisionindevelopingandmaintaininguniversity’sdatabases.Thisactivityconsistsofthreesub-activities:SystemAnalysis,S
