对于很多长期变换工作地点的人来说，如何注销在其他城市开户却不再使用的银行卡成为一个难题。而如果就此闲置又会占用自己的银行卡办理名额，因为根据《中国银监会关于银行业打击治理电信网络新型违法犯罪有关工作事项的通知》，自日起，同一客户在同一机构开立借记卡原则上不得超过4张（不含社保类卡）。
实际上，目前包括农业银行、建设银行、招商银行、浦发银行、光大银行、华夏银行、南京银行在内的16家上市银行都可以办理借记卡异地注销业务，只是都存在一定的限制条件。
以北京为例，开通短信通知可能影响异地销卡。农行规定，异地销卡的条件之一是没有开通短信通知业务。当然，该业务可以通过网上银行、掌上银行取消。如果没开网银，则只能回原办卡地销卡。
办卡后长期搁置不用也不行。建行规定，其借记卡三年不用会变成“睡眠卡”，无法异地注销。
用银行卡交水电费十分便捷，但兴业银行客服表示，如果用借记卡办理过水电费代缴等代扣代缴业务，又没有取消，则不能异地注销。
如果因为买卖股票、基金等签订第三方存管协议，多家银行会要求先取消协议。农行、交行、招行客服均表示，若借记卡开通了第三方存管、理财投资等不支持跨分行注销的协议，则只能持卡回原开卡地区销户。
浦发银行、光大银行、华夏银行、南京银行等条件相对宽松，即使借记卡捆绑有第三方存管、代缴代扣、短信通知等业务，一般情况下也可以办理异地销卡。
