The reading passage aims to dispel the function of the vessel as electric batteries by introducing the lack of electricity conductors, the use of holding scrolls and no place where it could be used. The lecturer, nonetheless, raises strong objections to those three aspects.
First of all, with respect to no findings of metal wires, the lecturer reminds us that the excavation was conducted by local people rather than experts in archaeology. It is very likely that local people fail to recognized many crucial materials, like electricity conductors and overlooked them as a result. This directly contradicts what the reading indicates about metal wires.
Second, the lecturer goes on to refute the view in the reading that the cylinders serve as containers to hold scrolls because of their resemblance to the counterpart in the Seleucia. Furthermore, she says the function of the copper cylinders varies in different regions. Besides, the vessel combined with liquid was able to produce electricity, indicating it could adapt to other purposes instead of holding scrolls merely.
Finally, regarding no devices dependent on electricity thousands years ago, the lecturer contends that the vessel was used in many ways in ancient times. For one thing, it could create the shock and tingling sense, which were used by people to show their magical power. For another, it played a large role in healing patients as it could stimulate muscles as well as relieve pain. Still, today's doctors apply the vessel for the same purpose. Therefore, the lecturer considers the final point in the reading is flawed again.
