are multiple reports that the new Nook’s touchscreen stops working
and locks! Many buyers are stating the same on the
B&N forums: “the touchscreen stopped responding”.
The issue can happen days or even hours after purchase.

There’s always a chance of flipping pages over by accident. If you
want to avoid accidental page turns or make more definite clicks,
consider the Kindle 3 with a physical keyboard or the non-touch
Kindle 2011 with a 5-way toggle & these are more reliable and
accurate but also more tedious overall.
Dictionary:&All three devices have
inbuilt dictionaries. On the Nook Touch, it’s a 3-step process &
you touch and hold down the word for 2 seconds and tap ‘Look Up’. A
popup with the definition will appear. Once done, this popup will
need to be closed by tapping an “X”.
This works similarly on the Kindle Touch, but there’s more to it.
The Kindle Touch has a unique new feature & X-Ray. This reference
tool helps you retrieve word definitions and brief summaries on the
main characters (including historical and fictitious), as well as
see the word’s presence throughout the text. It’s similar to Google
Chrome’s CTRL+F function, where it highlights the words found and
can easily take you to each. I think this new Amazon feature is
very neat. The info articles are from Wikipedia & they comes
together with the book, so you don’t need to be online for it to
There’s no X-Ray feature on the Kindle 3. Retrieving a word
definition is more tedious & you have to keep pressing the up/down
arrow to a word to make the definition appear on the screen.
Screen: Talking about the screen clarity and crispness,
the devices are identical, because they use the same e Ink
Pearl.&The difference is in the frequency of
“black-outs”. The touch N. and K. “black-out” only every 6th page
turn, while the K3 does so every time you turn the page.

PDF: Neither the Kindle nor Nook Touch have landscape
mode, while the K3 and the non-touch Kindle 2011 do. Compared to
the Kindles, the Nook has a poor choice of settings for PDFs and a
specific “text reflow” feature. It just doesn’t work with PDFs as
well. The problem with Amazon readers is that to reflow a PDF, you
need to send it to Amazon and they will reflow it and send it to
your @ email.
同样的是Touch们不支持横屏模式，但是K3和K4支持。Nook可以做一些针对PDF的微弱选择，并拥有文本渲染特点。但是对PDF的表现依然不佳。

compelling library of books and magazines. Unfortunately, the
Amazon readers still don’t support EPUB, but now there’s free
Library Book Lending available for them.

昨天我们 Barnes & Noble将推出新版带有背光的Nook电子书，今天国外科技媒体 就发布了一个上手视频，并称Nook Simple Touch最早会于五月初上市，今天即可预订，售价为139美元。
之前 Amazon正在开发下一代采用发光技术的Kindle，让人们在夜间可以阅读电子书，甚至还为此收购了一家公司。但现在最先推出发光电子书的竟然是美国最大实体书商Barnes & Noble，这真是让我们大跌眼镜。
Barnes & Noble在新版Nook Simple Touch上采用的屏幕背光技术被称之为“GlowLight”，是一种将LED灯和防眩光屏幕保护器结合在一起的一种专利技术。新版Nook和原来的大小、配置一模一样，6寸珍珠屏，但是重量减轻至197g（之前为212g）。
Nook Simple Touch上的背光通过“n”按钮开关、进入设置可以调节亮度，而且不会影响阅读体验。在电池续航方面，如果不使用“GlowLight”背光的话，每天阅读30分钟可坚持2个月。如果使用“GlowLight”背光的话（亮度未知），续航能力降低一半，只能坚持1个月。

自从升上版本 1.1 之后，用户都发现它的 。Barnes & Noble 在得悉问题之后，便开始赶工抢修，直到今天他们终于释出版本为 1.1.2 的升级档啰。是次升级将会为装置带来「少量系统改善」，而该公司的代表确认该个 Wi-Fi 问题将会包括在上述的少量改善之中。升级将会在本星期里逐步发放，连接了网络的 Nook Simple Touch 将会自动下载；不过矛盾的是，自动下载是要经过出现问题的 Wi-Fi，如用户的装置是连不上 Wi-Fi 的话，可以到引用来源，依照页面的指示通过电脑手动下载。
