Abstract: Tonal error is one of the major problems for foreign students who are learning Chinese. The neural tone is particularly confusing to them because of neural tone's uniqueness in pronounciation, which is very different form the other basic tones in Chinese. This study applied experimental methods, to investigate Chinese disyllabic and trisyllabic neural tone errors among Japanese students. The results showed three aspects of errors :1) The pitch contour of Japanese students was flatter than that of the native speakers due to abnormal rising in the end part of T0 pitch coutour or mistakenly replace a rising contour with a f激肠篙课蕻酒戈旬恭莫alling one. This error was commonly founded in cases where a T0 syllable is after a T3. 2) The fundamental frequency range had been compressed in both T0 and non-T0 syllables. This problem was particularly common in cases where T0 syllable is after a T1. 3)The T0 syllable was pronounced longer than expected.
